Ardche_well

There is a well called Sorrow;
from it flows pure happiness.
But whoever looks only into the well
is horrified.

He sees in the deep shaft of water
his own bright image surrounded by night.
Oh, drink! The image flows away:
light brims up.

Gleichnis

Es ist ein Brunnen, der heisst Leid;
Draus fliesst die lautre Seligkeit.
Doch wer nur in den Brunnen schaut,
Den graut.

Er sieht im tiefen Wasserschacht
Sein lichtes Bild umrahmt von Nacht.
O trinke! da zerrinnt din Bild:
Licht quillt.
